Lucas Barnes

Your next Crown Point City Court Judge

I want to introduce myself to you all, tell you a bit about myself, and explain why I have chosen to run for Crown Point City Court Judge. My name is Betsy Lucas Barnes and I am the Democrat candidate for Crown Point City Court Judge. I have been a lawyer for over 16 years. I attended law school at Valparaiso University where I graduated Cum Laude after attending the University of Notre Dame for undergrad. I now work for the law firm Church Church Hittle & Antrim and, currently, the primary focus of my practice is School Law and Estate Planning. I am a Lake County native and a fourth-generation attorney. My father, Mark Lucas, continues practicing law in Northwest Indiana to this day. My husband, Nick Barnes, is also an attorney focusing his practice on criminal defense with the firm Vouga Barnes & Denny.

My husband and I have lived together in Crown Point for 15 years believing it to be a great city to raise our family. I am the proud mother of three wonderful children: Lucas, Jackson and Sloane. My family has become entrenched in this community and I have enjoyed serving on several community organizations. I am currently the vice president of Crown Point Youth Soccer. I also serve as a Co-Awards chairperson for the Crown Point Swim Club.

I am running for Crown Point City Court Judge because I want to serve this community. The Crown Point City Court serves an important role in our community and I believe I can enhance that relationship. I will bring a fair and unbiased outlook to the position, bringing a new and fresh mindset to that role. I will also strive to bring judicial efficiency to the Court striving to bring resolution to matters as promptly as possible.

I believe it is important to develop healthy relationships in all facets of the community, which includes a relationship with our judicial system. This Court has the opportunity to make our citizens feel a closer connection with this community rather than the opposite. These are issues I want to be proactive in solving. I believe we can achieve this and more. I look forward to that opportunity. Thank you for your consideration and your support!
